Why did Nail Gaiman-the author of book "Caroline" call world outside the door "Country of Nightmares"?

For the whole third quarter I was reading the book "Alice in Wonderland".I don't like this book. As for me it is boring. I saw the film , and when I was reading book, I waited some breathtaking moments as at the film. But I have started the new book-"Caroline" by Neil Gaiman. I read about 2 chapters, and I can say, that this book really amazing. I read this book without stopping. Also I saw the cartoon, but in "Caroline' book are present all of the moments from film, or vice versa.
Coraline Jones - the main character, a young girl. She is curious, intelligent, resourceful and courageous. She thinks her parents are indifferent to her, because they are always busy with work. She does not like her own life. And what is about, which I asked to myself "Why did Nail Gaiman-the author of book "Caroline" call world outside the door "Country of Nightmares"?" How I said earlier, I saw this film. That's why I know the answer on question. When Coraline discovers a passage extending behind miniature door that leads her to exactly the same house, to the Other World. Arriving there, the girl meets people with button-eyes - copies of her mother and father. These people claim to be her “other” parents. They show Coraline a house that turns out to be quite luxurious and attractive. The “Others” mother and father celebrate the arrival of the girl with a delicious dinner, then they lead Coraline to a beautiful, charming garden. They show everyone that they love Coraline very much, and here the girl experiences such feelings and receives such things that she does not have in her real world. Everything would be fine, but when other mother offered to sew buttons instead eyes, and Coraline refused, thereby outraging the “other” mother, who turns into a tall, terribly thin, horrible-looking woman and locks Coraline in a small room behind the mirror as a punishment. All of this Other World turned into scary world with rotting swamps and trees. This world turned into a gray world.
I can be wrong, because film may have differences with book, I think, it must have differences. I will continue my reading and may be I'll find other answer on this question.

Analysis

How I was writing earlier, all people have favorite books and characters in them. We also can and love to compare ourselves and characters. We want to be on character's place, to feel all of feelings, which character senses. For example: I think, a lot of girls when they read love stories, they want to be on  heroine's place! Let's talk about that!
I want to tell you about my classmates, because they also also read different books and compare themselves with different characters.
Sima: she reads the book"Black Beauty", this book, how she said, is about black horse. Similarities: first, Sima has many friends, because she is very friendly, communicative and easy-going. Second, she is very hardworking, like Black Beauty, because Sima does all of things with love. She is hardworking and persistent. And also differences: Black Beauty that's called that he has black mane, but Sima has fair hair.
Vasilisa: she reads book "Invisible man". Similarity: Vasya likes different jokes and anecdotes, like her book's character, and by her own she is funny, happy and optimistic. Vasilisa laughs everywhere! Differences: this invisible man is crazy in bad meaning, but Vasya, how I can see, isn't crazy. At least, it isn't manifest.
Dasha K: Dasha is reading book "Pollyanna". This book is about girl-teenager with red hair. Dasha is like Pollyanna, because this girl smiles everywhere and also is optimistic, we can see it anytime, and even at the English lessons. Differences: Pollyanna doesn't have her parents, but Dasha has.
Mary: I know Mary's book "Manyunya", but I didn't read it. Similarity: Masha has a lot of friends, but not only in her native town and from different cities and even countries! That's because, she is very active (also like Manyunya) and Mary travels around the world with her friends to different projects and camps. Difference: on the lesson Masha said, that her parent spoiled her when she was a child, it isn't the same with Manyunya.
Alice: she is reading now a book, it's call "The Cat Warriors". Character with which she compare herself is Firestar 9. Alice said that it is a leader, like she, because Alice is the president of our school, and as far as I can tell, since we are friends, she likes to be a leader, Alice likes to command, but that doesn't make her bad. The second similarity is love with stars (of course on the sky), she also tells me about stars. And the last similarity is vocal skills, she loves to sing, even on the lessons. Alice visited different vocal competitions and almost everyone she got 1st places!
Kirill: Kirill book is about Hercule Poirot. I think Kirill is like that person, because he is very smart and intelligent, he also knows everything. And how he said, he likes to collect something like Hercule. Kirill collects action figures.
It was interesting to compare my friend s with someone. I like tasks of this kind. In this way, we improve our imagination skills. Also I would like to read, what my friend wrote about me! Thank you!

The character of the book is like me!

Yes, I agree with you. While reading book we may compare some characters with ourselves. Specially, I think with the main characters. The description of appearance, of character are “drawn” in our head. And we present this character as ourselves. I want to speak about this topic. Reading books, we ourselves draw a picture of everything that is happening in the plot. Many writers in their works form the image of the "ideal person", praise the merits and decry flaws. The reader absorbs the words of the authors, thinks about his actions and makes conclusions: what needs to be changed in himself. In other words, books motivate the reader to change for the better. And this also happens with me. When I started to read my book "Alice in Wonderland", at the same time I started to compare Alice with me. I like extreme and adventures! In this way, I think, I am look like Alice. I also want to suddenly fall into Big Rabbit Hole, and find myself in magic world, where all of animals speak and croquet plays with flamingos and hedgehogs. And especially I want to have a tea party with the  Cheshire Cat, March Hare, Caterpillar, Hatter, Dormouse.I think, we need to compare some characters and characters with us, because it develops our imagination!

Book as a Teacher

The book "Alice in Wonderland" of  Lewis Carroll is very breathtaking book. I extracted some of lessons. I am going to tell you about book as a teacher.
This book teaches us not to be afraid to dream, to be yourself in any situation and not to be afraid of difficulties. Do not waste time on tears, but think about ways to solve your problems, the main character Alice argues.
And I even fond out the words from this moment:
“But Alice quickly realized what kind of sea it was! It was a sea of tears, which she herself wept when she was nine feet tall.
- I didn’t need to cry so much! - She said, floundering and trying to figure out where to swim. “And now I’m punished for this and, what’s good, I’ll drown in my own tears.” Incredible story, honest word! "
She is not confused by the Cheshire Cat, March Hare, Caterpillar, Hatter, Dormouse and even the talking baby-pig. She takes everything for granted. Our dreams are our thoughts, wishes and fears that disturb us in real life. In dreams we easily become what we would like to be, but can't, because there are various circumstances.
The book teaches us to be those who we are and strive for the best. And I think, that if you believe in your dreams, they also come true!

Importance of reading book

In nowadays all of people love reading, and it is not important, that it’s a articles, books, comics or other kinds. It is important, because you find out some new interesting information. For example, I would like love stories, and this is a book “Paper towns” of John Green. Now I want to tell you about 7 reasons of reading!
  1. LIFE EXPERIENCE. While reading a book, we, how I said, something new, we learn useful information, we learn something. We also use books for the rest. Reading allows us to relax. Besides, we take some emotions from books, those we don’t have in our everyday life. For example, the same live stories.
  2. VOCABULARY. One of the first advantages of literature is a beautiful, competent speech and vocabulary! Without knowing how to communicate, you can not truly convey your thoughts to the companion.
  3. CREATIVITY. Reading the books, we ourselves draw a picture of everything happening in it. The sounds, images, smells are “drawn” in our head. These exercises train our brain.
  4. GOOD SLEEPING. When, I was younger my mother told me: «Dasha, read the book, you will quickly fall asleep», and it was true. According to researchers, systematic reading before bedtime pleasant literature can improve sleep. And this is understandable, because the body gets used to such a mode, and soon reading becomes a signal for the body - going to bed is nearing!
  5. CONCENTRATE. We divide our attention between TV, Internet, telephone and lots of other things. But so we lose the ability to focus at the right time on one important thing. Reading a book improves the ability to concentrate.
  6. GOOD MENTAL HEALTH. According to research scientists, reading can slow down and even prevent such serious problems as dementia. And all because when reading the brain is constantly in good shape, it is active, that is, in fact, it is for him the same charge.
  7. THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEMORY AND THINKING. According to scientists, people who regularly read books, at least for one hour a day, train and improve their memory. Naturally, because every day they remember some new information for themselves.

I think, If you do not like fiction - it does not mean that reading is not for you. Believe me, there were and there are people in this world who, perhaps, also did not find anything for themselves in it. And they wrote their books.
